Assembling the piston, pin, and connecting rod shows the taper ground into the small end of the 5.8 connecting rod. Interestingly, the piston pin is a pure carryover 5.4 part. Because of the stronger, more supportive piston, plus a slight reduction in pin-to-connecting rod clearance, pin bending is reduced and no increased pin strength is needed.
