Fans of the stock and Boss intake manifolds can argue over these curves all day long, but in a side-by-side race the Boss is going to win. Bang-for-the-buck enthusiasts can’t miss how some custom tuning, a smaller blower pulley, and 600 more rpm transform the stock Mustang GT and Vortech combo—that’s the difference between the low-arcing dark blue line and the soaring red line. Key to all this high-rpm fun is Vortech’s electronic tuning, which was greatly assisted by tuning expert Jon Lund (www.lundracing.com). We can’t get over how much we like the Vortech blower in black. Aside from the anniversary color, this V3 blower used in the Coyote/RoadRunner manifold comparo was standard stuff. It is self-lubricated so installation is easy with no oil return line to plumb and the Si-Trim is Vortech’s regular street fare. Helical gears keep the V3 dead-quiet, which is a good match to the sophisticated 5.0-liter V-8. View Related Article
