50 Coyote Engine Name Game

Victorious in everything from sprint cars to Le Mans, four-time Indy 500 winner A. J. Foyt called his Indy cars Coyotes-which also explains his '05-'09 "Coyote Edition" Mustangs. A. J. bought Ford's '64 DOHC Indy V-8 program, running it to the end of the '70s in turbocharged form. Thus linked to the Coyote name, the 255ci DOHC Ford made 425 hp at 8,000 rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque at 6,400 rpm. Compression was 10.5:1-less than the new Coyote-and its Hilborn mechanical fuel injection fed through the center of the cylinder heads, while the exhaust blew into the valley. View Related Article
