Andy checks the makeup of the E85 with a Fuel Composition Tester. The device accurately analyzes gasoline and gasoline/ethanol blends, indicating the percentage of alcohol that's present in them. Our E85 test fuel registers 43.98 percent, which means it is a Summer Blend. It has more octane than the Winter Blend corn because of its higher ethanol levels. Since we're changing from gas to E85, checking the percentage is important for our data as residual pump gas in the tank can decrease octane, and vice-versa when corn is substituted with gasoline.
