1989 Mustang LX Upgraded -Fox Buildup, Phase 2
The billet aluminum "race"... The billet aluminum "race" blow-off valve is truly a work of art, as is the fabrication work Rob Lewis performed on the blower piping. Rob is the owner/fabricator at Rigid Race Cars outside of Cincinnati, Ohio. His work is absolutely top notch, and his cars can often be found in the winner's circle at NMRA events around the country. | We swapped the existing Autolite... We swapped the existing Autolite spark plugs with a set of NGK's V-Power plugs in the #7 heat range. They are much colder than the stock plugs to keep detonation away, and they also lack a resistor so they're less likely to foul out under the load from our 60-lb/hr injectors. | The ignition coil was moved... The ignition coil was moved here to make room for the AFM Power Pipe. Summit Racing Equipment supplied this MSD Pro Power HVC coil to go along with the MSD Digital 7-Plus ignition box. The coil came with all of the hardware and wiring necessary to install it. | The MSD Digital 7-Plus found... The MSD Digital 7-Plus found its home here in the passenger-side footwell. In this location, the supplied harnesses were long enough to reach the engine compartment and the adjustment screws are easily accessible. Notice the power wires coming out the back of the ignition box. They must run directly to the battery in order to avoid picking up electrical interference. | With the underhood electrical... With the underhood electrical connections completed, our work in the engine compartment is done. It looks a lot like 10 pounds of stuff in a 5-pound sack, but miraculously, it all fits perfectly under the factory, steel hood. This helps maintain the stealth look of the car. | Moving inside the car, we... Moving inside the car, we upgraded the existing Anderson Ford Motorsport PMS Series 1 with this Series 4 unit. It comes with everything you need for a plug-and-play operation. The control unit is piggybacked with the factory EEC-IV using the supplied harness, which was long enough to mount the box under the passenger seat. | Once the PMS was up and running,... Once the PMS was up and running, we got busy loading the custom tune supplied by Rick Anderson. In this photo, my crew chief is supervising the data-entry process to ensure that every value is entered properly. The controls on the Series 4 are intuitive, so operation is not the least bit intimidating. | The crew at Xtreme Audio &... The crew at Xtreme Audio & Performance is responsible for the new look of our dashboard. They installed all of the Auto Meter components, along with our new Alpine CDA-9887 head unit. The gauges keep the driver informed, while the CD player provides the entertainment. | We told you this car is not... We told you this car is not a garage queen. Here we are filling up with Shell's finest, 93-octane pump gas. With only 12 pounds of boost, the car runs great on this stuff, but people sure do look at you strangely when you pull up to the pump in a car that sounds more like a jet airplane. | We may or may not have been... We may or may not have been looking for trouble at the local cruise spot when this shot was taken. Most people don't notice the sumped tank and air-to-air intercooler, and they pass the car off as just a clean, old Fox. | | |
