Fastlane's Return Style Terminator Fuel System - Hat Trick

The Fore Precision Works triple-pump hat is a direct-fit replacement for the factory fuel-pump assembly and doesn't require modification or relocation of the sending unit. A replacement gasket is recommended, but the hat is secured with Allen bolts that are included.

Jeremy installs a Red Horse Performance fitting into the braided hose. While the fitting threads into the assembly fairly easily, a little lube of some variety works well for handling this process and prevents galling the threads.

Because of the tight clearance between fittings, the three Red Horse Performance ProSeries AN -8 primary fuel-feed lines are secured to the triple-pump hat first, and then the AN -6 braided hose is added.

Once the fuel lines are connected, Jeremy and Dustin raise the tank into position below Jaimie's Cobra.

The triple feed of fuel is collected at this billet three-into-one distribution block from Fore Precision Works. Fastlane mounts this piece on the inner framerail, just below the rear seat on the passenger side. From this point, fuel passes through Red Horse's super-clean, inline filter and on to the front of the Cobra through a single AN -8 braided hose.

A Snake's IRS and unique exhaust system make routing fuel lines a bit challenging, but it's doable. Having the car raised with a twin-post hoist makes the task much easier.

The AN -8 single fuel line breaks out into two AN -6 lines that connect to the two fuel rails on the engine. Red Horse Performance's stepped-down Y-block makes this part of the project possible.

A bypass regulator is one of the heart-and-soul components in a return-style fuel system, as it's the gatekeeper for fuel that's returned to the tank. Fastlane's Rick Ford creates a mounting bracket that will allow us to secure Aeromotive's 13109 boost-referenced bypass regulator to the passenger side of the timing cover.

Fuel lines into the regulator and returning to the tank are arranged for easy access and removal if necessary.

Our fuel system installation is a done deal and was accomplished in about four hours. Fastlane definitely takes the guesswork out of laying out and fitting a return-style fuel system into an '03-'04 Cobra. With the Fore Precision Works triple-pump hat ensuring that this Snake's Four-Valve engine will be sufficiently supplied with fuel, Jaimie can now focus his efforts on acquiring the parts that are necessary for really making big steam.

Inside the tank, each fuel pump is wired with its own separate power and ground. However, inside the car, Fastlane ties the entire works into a single power/ground source.

This is a closer look at the fuel pumps' independent power (weather pack connectors with red wires) and ground (weather pack connectors with black wires) wiring system. Everything is set up with plug-and-play simplicity, similar to the factory connectors for the sending unit and fuel-pressure sensor, which can be seen in the photo, just above the power-and-ground links.
