Shelby Mustang Gt500 Performance Parts Stock Supercharged
The bone-stock, supercharged 5.4 in Carlos Cortez's Shelby GT500 didn't have the steam we thought it should, but the situation wasn't anything that a few good bolt-on parts couldn't fix. Yes, we're jaded.

Shelby Mustang Gt500 Performance Parts Lowered Springs
Because our test Shelby is lowered, positioning the car on a twin-post hoist is somewhat challenging. Saul "The Surgeon" Gutierrez relies on two-tiered, drive-on wheel ramps to help create sufficient clearance for the hoist's arms.

Shelby Mustang Gt500 Performance Parts Engine Temperature
We won't call it a downfall, but high temperatures are definitely one of the challenges we face when doing performance-related projects in Southern California. At one point during our Shelby effort, the temp inside the dyno cell at Extreme Automotive registered 107 degrees. Heat like that is one of horsepower's biggest enemies.

Shelby Mustang Gt500 Performance Parts Low Milage
We've tested Shelby GT500s with fewer miles, but it's still cool to see odometer readings like this one right before we make changes to the specialty 'Stangs that many Melvins feel should be left alone.

Shelby Mustang Gt500 Performance Parts Bumper Covering
Removing the front bumper cover is step one in the heat exchanger exchange process. One person can perform the front-cover extraction, but it's best to have a second person assist to avoid dropping or damaging the bumper cover.

The pulley's bling and the cold-air intake's carbon-fiber cool are appearance qualities that stand out in the engine compartment. Tucked behind the bumper is the new heat exchanger.

Shelby Mustang Gt500 Performance Parts Increase Boost
Ford loads its supercharged Shelbys with this petite, one-row heat exchanger. The piece is probably fine for bone-stock GT500s, but given the nature of superchargers, where heat soak (heat generated by the blower that doesn't dissipate and remains inside the case) is common and has an extremely negative impact on a blower's efficiency, replacing it with a bigger unit is critical when upgrades increase boost.

Shelby Mustang Gt500 Performance Parts Low Temperature Radiator
Fluidyne's new low-temperature radiator is a much larger (than stock) heat exchanger designed for Shelbys and Mustang GTs equipped with Roots-/screw-style blowers. The radiator's coolant capacity (nearly two quarts) is more than two times that of the OEM piece. Since we're re-using the factory coolant pump on our test GT500, Fluidyne's bracket kit is also required for this process.
