Fox Mustang Chicane Carpet Kit - Neat At Your Feet
Once the passenger side is done, Joe puts down the driver side. The important part is to locate the carpet as you want it, and get the floor and transmission tunnel sides wrinkle-free. don't worry about the top of the transmission tunnel since the center console covers it anyway.
A single piece of carpet runs across the rear passenger floor. Pay close attention to where it passes over the driveshft tunnel; a bit of extra underlayment to bring the surface even in all dimensions is needed to avoid wrinkles.
Glue and attach one half of the rear carpet, then the other. Again, Smooth the matrial carefully, beginning with the top of the tunnel and working it well into the corners.
Apply an extra dose of glue at the outer edges to keep them form curling up.
Fitting the Chicane carpet calls for trimming here and there. There is a ton of extra material around the parking-brake assembly, for example, so Joe trims it to fit. Other areas will need cutouts for wiring harnesses, studs, and other pass-throughs.
The front of the transmission tunnel is one of those places where studs pass through. Two of them are used to locate the radio bracket, so before bolting the bracket back in place, the stud holes are located and cut.
Here's the finished front-passenger footwell. We're showing the carpet without the seats since you can see much more that way. We didn't spend too much time fussing with the nap of the carpet at this point, but it does have a ditinct light/dark reflection depending on how the surface is brushed.
On the driver side, the heel pad is generously sized. like any old car with a new part added, the old stuff stands out hugely. We've already purchased new pedal pads.
New carpet calls for new floor mats, so be sure to have a set on hand when the carpet goes in. We picked up a set of Auto Custom Carpet mats from our friends at Brothers Performance Warehouse[(800) 486-2681; www.brothersperformance.com]. Amazingly, they go beautifully with the Chicane carpet. The colors and textures are slightly different, but just enought to set each other off.
You can have your choice of insignia on ACC's floormats. we opted for the running horse since it goes with any Mustang theme we might choose for our car.
