1999 Cobra Stock Axle Upgrade - Independently Robust



 1999 Mustang Cobra Factory Emergency Brake Cable Removal
Next up, Jason must disconnect the factory emergency brake cables. There's a clip that keeps each cable in place. Jason removes it, then moves the cable out of the way.

To take off the knuckle, first remove the factory cotter pin and loosen the nut.
 1999 Mustang Cobra Knocking Toe Link Loose
While keeping pressure on the rear toe link, Jason hits the knuckle to knock the toe link loose.
 1999 Mustang Cobra Factory Axleshaft
We promise Jason is getting close to removing the axleshafts, but first he must remove the axleshaft nut using an impact gun. The axleshaft nut is a 36mm, so make sure you have a socket that big before attempting this swap.

The upper nut on the knuckle uses an 18mm cam bolt for camber alignment adjustments, so Jason marks the nut's mounting orientation on the bracket so it can be installed in the same position. He uses an impact gun and a wrench to remove the upper nut.

Jason then takes off the 18mm lower nut on the knuckle so it can be totally removed. To help loosen the axleshaft, Jason uses air hammer to jar it loose.

 1999 Mustang Cobra Prybar
After it's loose, Jason uses a prybar to help the axleshaft out of the pumpkin.
 1999 Mustang Cobra Lower Shock Bolt
To give himself extra room, Jason loosens the lower shock bolt. He can then remove the axleshaft assembly.
