We decided to go with G-Force Racing Gear's Pro-Series camlock harness (PN 7000; $149.95) for our project T-top '86 'Stang. This bolt-in, five-point system (two lap, two shoulder, and one antisubmarine belt) features individual shoulder belts, providing a bit more room than U-type shoulder belts offer. The belts also include grip rolls that increase tensioning for easy adjustments and pull-tabs for easy release. A harness for the driver is required by the National Hot Rod Association in any 'Stang equipped with a rollbar or a 'cage.

Our certified G-Force safety restraints are made from DuPont Nylon 6-6 and feature quadruple, W-box stitching on the end of each strap for additional strength. The belts also meet SFI Foundation's 16.1 specs for driver-restraint assemblies.

Certification is valid for two years, beginning on the month/year dates punched in the patch. Prolonged exposure of seatbelt webbing and thread to sunlight can cause degradation of fibers and loss of restraint integrity. When certification expires in August 2008, the entire safety-harness assembly must either be replaced or sent to G-Force for rewebbing and recertification.

The four shoulder belts (two belts per side) are attached to the crossbrace of our Chris Alston's Chassisworks rollcage. Dave grinds paint off the bar in similar areas behind both front seats. A total of four tabs for the mounting hardware will be welded to this crossbrace. Using the seats as reference points, Dave measures 1 1/4 inches from center to determine where the outside edges of the tabs should sit.

Using a MIG welder, Dave tacks each tab in place and verifies it is straight and properly spaced. Once everything checks out, all the pieces are fully welded. Dave uses a fire-prevention blanket by Kimble Midwest to protect our freshly redone seats from the sparks.
