Thus far, we've added parts and tuned the combination with Anderson Ford Motorsport's preferred tuning tool-the Programmable Management System. The PMS piggybacks between the factory processor and wiring harness, allowing you to manipulate the signals sent out by the EEC IV before they get back to the engine. It's a powerful tool and you can constantly update your tune without paying for another. In a way, you pay up front. The PMS is more expensive than a chip, but it easily grows with your combination, as it has through our buildup. In the case of the dry nitrous system, it's an easy way to maximize combination.

"I really like the dry systems more than anything else, because when you hit a wet system on the dyno, you have the solenoids and the length of hose before the solenoids," Rick says. "Nitrous is compressed, so it gets there first and you always have a lean spot. With a dry system, it gets there at the same time. It's much easier to control if you have a wideband."

In this case, Rick added fuel across the rpm range and subtracted 10 degrees of timing. The results were impressive with a thunderous 521 lb-ft of torque just moments after the solenoids open and a peak of 449 hp at only 4,900 rpm. More impressive was the extremely flat curve. Rick clicked by 6,000 as the power had peaked, and we didn't need to risk the extra rpm. He says it's interesting to note that the nitrous actually seems to "shrink" the cam and make the power peak come in earlier. That means you could run a larger cam if you had the valve clearance-Chad's stock engine doesn't. Conversely, a supercharger does the opposite, making a smaller cam act larger.
