What do you do when you can see a killer 'Stang part in your mind, but you're not able to find the physical piece anywhere throughout the Mustang aftermarket? Well, if you're Keith Doughty, owner of K DeZines Custom Car Audio of Tucson, Arizona, you make it.
Such was the case last year when Keith was frustrated by his unsuccessful search for a rear-seat-delete kit that fit inside his Fox hatchback. He wanted it to fit flush against the interior panels, with a removable access panel that becomes a storage area of sorts inside the void created by the missing seat cushion. Keith decided to make his own.

After first removing the hatch-area carpet and spare-tire cover, and taking out the rear seat bottom, Saul hauls the fold-down seatbacks out of the hatch area after they've been disconnected from the hatch floor.
We always have our eyes open for a clean look in a Mustang's interior, and anytime we roll up on a hatchback or trunk-model 'Stang that's had the rear-seat assembly removed, we like to see how well the surgery was performed. Simply taking the seats out is no big deal, but finishing the area for a near-factory appearance definitely is.
K DeZine's new rear-seat-delete kit for '87-'93 hatchback Mustangs (PN 8793H or 7986H for four-eyed hatch Foxes; $295) is the answer for those who want to eighty-six their back seats for two-seater cool or 'Stangchero versatility, thanks to the increased storage space. Available with a choice of 1/4-inch or 1/2-inch MDF board, in black, gray, blue, red, or custom-dyed colors to match any interior carpet, the kit installs easily and dresses up the hatch area nicely.
A '92 LX is the patient here, and Saul "The Surgeon" Gutierrez of Extreme Automotive performs the installation of a K DeZines rear-seat delete, which includes optional Fleckstone paint on the back of the covers and cover supports ($30). Look for additional rear-seat-delete kits for coupe-style Fox Mustangs, SN-95s, and even '05s-'06s, which are in development and might be available by the time you read this.

Here's a look at K DeZines' rear-seat-delete kit for hatchback '87-'93 'Stangs (PN 8793H). It's the basic kit, with half-inch MDF board and optional Fleckstone paint behind the covers for the spare-tire area and the void made by the missing seat bottom. Company owner Keith Doughty says that custom variations of the panels are available to support rollcages, stereo speakers, nitrous bottles, and such for '79-'86 and '87-'93 coupes.

Each K DeZines rear-seat-delete kit is shipped with all the necessary parts and hardware for an easy installation. While the kit goes in with basic tools, having a right-angle driver like this is helpful for securing most of the mounting brackets. The brackets are attached to both the panels and the floorpan, and they're positioned in areas that are somewhat hard to access.

C'mon, guys-you can't beat this look! The deleted rear seat is a night-and-day difference over the appearance of folded-down stockers. Note how the carpet follows the contour of the interior panels on both sides.
