Crutchfield's catalog is chock full of accessories for your Mustang. The company's line of Crimeguard security systems come with an ignition system interconnect that minimizes or eliminates cutting into the factory harness. Alarm systems can be a bit more complicated than a typical stereo install, but again Crutchfield holds your hand all the way with wiring detail sheets, toll-free tech help, and more. We asked Warren about a security system for our 3g, and, after getting the OK from Mike Sokolowski, Car A/V Managing Editor for Crutchfield, and our marketing contact Michele Rick, Warren wired a Crimeguard 745i3 into the car, along with the rest of the A/V wiring. Take a look at the pics for a brief overview, but if you want to install your own security system, the Crimeguard and Crutchfield's help is the way to go.
The Crimeguard 745i3 is a complete security and antitheft system with glass-breakage detection, shock sensors, multistage sensing, and more. This is Crutchfield's top-of-the-line security system to protect a top-of-the-line audio/video system.
The Crimeguard interconnect harness is one of the easiest ways to get a security system wired into the factory wiring quickly and effortlessly. The interconnect works at the ignition switch by tapping into the circuits you need and bypassing the ones you don't. Simply plug it in to the ignition switch and plug the factory harness into the interconnect to complete most of the alarm connections.
The 745i3 has multiple output options. Warren wires these output signals to release our trunk lid and fuel door. Other options include rolling down the windows (with an optional module), or any other device that uses 12-volt power, such as a motorized amp rack.
Because of the extra room now found behind the Alpine head unit, Warren wires and mounts the Crimeguard's module into the dash behind the head unit.

Here's the man who made the installation of our system happen. Warren's '85 GT was originally owned by his girlfriend's dad, who bought it new.
When we arrived at Crutchfield's Charlottesville, Virginia, offices, we met up with Warren Hawkins in the company's installation and training bay. Warren asked us a few questions as to the use of our project car and what he could do and not do to it. Some of the installation work and custom fabrication was done at the Crutchfield work area, while some of the custom woodworking and other tedious details were worked out in Warren's own garage. Although his daily driver is an aging Chevy pickup, he really is into cars. While restoring a vintage Camaro at home, he also enjoys blasting the tunes in his own custom stereo rig installed in another of his toys, an '85 GT hatch, replete with T-tops, five-speed, andthe original "halo" seats.
