2001 Ford Mustang Gt Aluminum 50 Engine Factory Cylinder Bore
Creating 5.0 liters from what started life as a sleeved aluminum 4.6 block means going from a factory cylinder bore of 3.552 inches to an even 3.70 inches. Though this may not sound like much, 3.70 inches is indeed larger than the outside diameter of the factory iron cylinder liners, so new, dry, cast-iron liners must be fitted-an operation requiring many steps and much precision.

2001 Ford Mustang Gt Aluminum 50 Engine Custom Forged Pistons
To fill the enlarged bores in the 5.0 Mod-zilla, Livernois uses custom JE forged pistons, a lightweight Speed-Pro moly ring package (1.5mm top, 1.5mm second, and 3.0mm oil), and an 0.866x2.50-inch floating pin with double spiro locks. With a factory-stock 1.220-inch compression height, pistons are offered in various configurations, including the flat-top version photographed here (about 12:1 compression with stock 43cc chambers), the 17cc-dished versions we opted for as shown in our lead photo (about 10:1), and one final variant for an even more boost-friendly 9:1 compression.
