Tuning Supercharged 1995 Ford Mustang Boosting Timing Module
For our '95 5.0, we are using MSD's combination of 6-BTM (Boost Timing Module) capacitive-discharge ignition box (PN 6462), Blaster TFI coil (PN 8227), and TFI coil harness (PN 8874). The 6-BTM's timing control knob allows dialing-in between 0 and 3 degrees of timing retard for every pound of boost the unit detects. Through experimentation, Lidio Iacobelli ended up pulling about 1.3 degrees per pound, for a total retard of around 13 degrees at our Novi's observed max of 10 psi.

Tuning Supercharged 1995 Ford Mustang Rev Limiter
The CARB-legal 6-BTM also comes with a selection of rpm "pills" used to set a rev limit. We ended up not using any, instead having Lidio set a limit of 6,400 rpm using the Autologic chip. Is 6,400 too high for our 5.0's stock bottom end? Time will tell.

Tuning Supercharged 1995 Ford Mustang Vortech Inline T Rex Fuel Pump
To its credit, our existing 255-lph in-tank pump was able to feed our thirsty beast up to about 5,500 rpm, after which fuel pressure began dropping like Enron stock. To help it out, we added Vortech's inline T-Rex pump (PN 8F202-265), capable of supplying up to 50 gallons per hour-at 70 psi.

Tuning Supercharged 1995 Ford Mustang Autologic Engine Chip
Lidio's chip of choice is from Autologic and has sufficient memory to store up to four separate programs, with the ability to switch between them. All we need for our street ragtop is one good, safe program that will provide great power, complete civility, and the ability to pass a smog test. We don't ask for much.

Tuning Supercharged 1995 Ford Mustang Engine Bay
Instead of cramming the MSD ignition box into a hot and already packed engine bay, Alternative Auto technician Matt Sestok tucks it up into the driver-side wheelwell, bolting it at the junction of the subframe and the vertical radiator support, grounding the box to the subframe. The weatherproof connector joins the 6-BTM to the timing control knob which, once set, is hidden away in the interior in a spot where we would be unlikely to accidentally or intentionally mess with it.

The 6-BTM reads boost through this fitting on the right side of the box. An 11/48-inch I.D. rubber hose is used to connect the fitting to a suitable vacuum/boost source on the engine.

Tuning Supercharged 1995 Ford Mustang Template Vortech
Installation of the T-Rex pump begins by drilling four 31/416-inch mounting holes at the front of the trunk tire well, their positions determined by a paper template Vortech includes with the pump.
