Naturally, Coast loaded up its project 347-E with all the options so itcould show them off. The 3/8-inch steel main stud girdle is $99.99,while the matching ARP stud set is $79.99.

Coast can also supply new replacement timing covers at $59.99. Thesehave fuel-pump bosses for early Mustangs, so late-model owners will needa block-off plate, which is no big deal. A timing pointer is alsorequired, which is also easy enough to come by.

The 347-E Street Fighter comes with a double-roller timing chain withmultiple keyways for dialing in the cam. This is mainly a benefit toCoast on the -E, as it installs the cam and can dial it in.

Stock is the name of the game in the 347-E valvetrain. Stock hydraulicroller lifters and their retaining spider are used. All parts are newstock units.

When buying a 347-E, you are free to install any cylinder heads desired,but clearly a set carrying a CARB Exemption Order is the only logicalthing to do. This is hardly a handicap, as many good street heads haveE.O. numbers. Coast opted for a set of Windsor Jr. castings on itsengine because the castings will make all the power the cam willallow--and best of all, they were already on hand.

Ah, there's always a technicality. In the Coast project engine it isthat the Windsor Jr. heads are ported. Technically, this negates theCARB E.O. number because the part has been modified, but we doubt itwould show in an emissions test. Once West Coast Cylinder Head wasfinished with the casting, the intake flowed 284 cfm and the exhaust 215cfm, both at 0.600 inch of valve lift. This will easily support the 400hp this combination is expected to make.
