For those wanting an automatic in their Coyote Fox/SN-95, Performance Automatic’s 4R70W transmission kit is $3,999.99 through Latemodel Restoration Supply. The main player is a PA’s remanufactured 4R70W built with race clutches, a massaged valvebody, hardened stub shaft for the Third and Overdrive gears and your choice of a 2,500- or 2,800-rpm stall torque converter. Everything else needed to fit the 4R70W in a Fox/SN-95 is included, such as a block plate (starter mount); flexplate with bolts; bellhousing bolts; torque converter nuts; dipstick and tube; wiring harness; and a standalone transmission controller. The controller lets the driver select shift firmness, shift timing, and lock-up delay using dials—no laptop required. Performance Automatic says its gearbox is good up to 650 hp, so any NA or blower street combination is not a problem, and it’s backed with a lifetime, non-transferable warranty. Essentially, if you can break it, Performance Automatic says it will fix it.
