Horse Sense: Thanks to several weight-reduction measures, Jesse's hatch totals 2,877 pounds with him in the car. That's really light, people. Weight-savings items include the removal of the power steering and A/C systems, using Jeg's plastic racing seats, rear-seat-delete kit, and the reduction of needless wiring.

Horse Sense: Although it takes a horrendous amount of work, a smoothed and gloss-painted engine bay is not only far more impressive, but also much easier to keep clean than the factory's matte-black and oh-so-cluttered inner fenders and firewall.

Most reading this weren't even thought of in 1970, but if you're a seasoned Mustang enthusiast it doesn't matter your age...you know about the original Twister Special sold through Kansas City area Ford dealers. Since the Midwest is synonymous with twisters and tornadoes, this marriage of car and deadly weather trait was a natural back in 1970. For 2008, R&A Motorsports has unleashed a new Twister Special, available from any Ford dealer. If you're in the FBI's witness protection plan, or simply don't like being noticed, you might as well stop reading.

Horse Sense: Mark Kennemer is a defense contractor. Many times when we've talked to him and his buddy/co-worker Jerome Shumate, they've been unable to tell us where they were at the time. We do know they've been fishing in Crawford, Texas.

Horse Sense: Jason Statham is well known for driving movies like The Transporter movies, and now Death Race. When asked what his favorite car flick is, Jason says Bullitt is his top car movie of all time. Can you say remake?

Horse Sense: A remarkable amount of engineering went into upgrading the base GT500 to KR specs. That's a lot of work for a run of 1,571 vehicles (1,000 in the '08 model year, and 571 in the '09 model year, which equals the original run of GT500KRs). As such, I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the parts and technologies developed for this 'Stang show up on future models.

Horse Sense: The Autobot badges on the car are there at the request of Joseph Soleimani's two young sons, owing to what he calls their "obsession" with the Transformers movie, and more specifically, its heroic and bright-yellow "Bumblebee" character. Yeah, yeah, we know Bumblebee transformed into a Camaro.

Horse Sense: Edgar Negron is retired military from the 98th Army Band, but still works civilian duty at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, in tech supply. He actually towed his GT from his Enterprise, Alabama, home to our Tampa offices for this photo shoot.

Horse Sense: While Centerforce has clutches for any manual-trans Mustang we cover in 5.0&SF, it also has five different lines of clutches-the Centerforce 1, Centerforce II, Dual Friction, DFX, and LMC series-to suit anything from a stocker to an all-out race car. The company also offers aluminum and billet-steel flywheels.

Horse Sense: If you're tied up in September, a twin event is held every May. Run over the same course, it's known as the Nevada Open Road Challenge. The air is cooler then, so your ride may run even faster.

Horse Sense: Phil Clemmons is an auto shop instructor at Richmond Tech Center. His students range from 10th to 12th graders, and he's even taken his car into the tech center for work. He's had at least one student attend races with him to help out.

Horse Sense: If you think huge horsepower necessitates a monstrous hoodscoop or cowl bulge, think again. Gregg Michalski estimates the current 342-inch engine will make more than 1,500 hp-what with the 30 pounds of boost generated by the 101mm Precision turbo.

Horse Sense: Retrobuilt in Ozark, Missouri, started out as a restoration shop, but it has added these insane RetroMods to its repertoire. The first was the RSC-GT featured in our Feb. '08 issue ("Flashback Heart Attack," p. 50), and the company has plans for even more retromod variants. "The concept behind our business is to produce vehicles that capture the style and allure of yesterday with the comfort and reliability of today," according to Retrobuilt's Web site. We can't wait to see what the company has planned next.

Horse Sense: Aside from Profile Racecraft, which is Raphael's side project, his main source of income is from his business, Automated Solutions. The company builds machines for the home improvement and construction industries, specializing in machinery designed to make countertops and kitchen cabinets for home and hotel/motel installations.

Horse Sense: Aside from the one-off UPR Products billet steering-wheel hub, other one-off pieces on Chris Merkel's Mustang GT include the air-intake pipe, the supercharger intercooler tank, and the washer-fluid tank.

Horse Sense: Don't let its show-car/cruiser status fool you. Jim's not-exactly-flyweight trophy collector has run a 12.20-second e.t. at 119 mph on its Nitto drag radials.

Horse Sense: Coming from the same Hellion Racing stable as multiple and reigning Outlaw Champion John Urist, Dwayne James' reputation for big horsepower numbers and unrelenting effort makes him one of the favorites to shake up the field in the NMRA Super Street Outlaw class. His car is capable of e.t.'s in the 7.40s and maybe a visit to the 200-mph zone.

Horse Sense: Aside from its line of serialized Mustangs, Wayne Akers Racing will also customize Foci, Fusions, F-150s, and F-250s

Horse Sense: Rumor is that our next show-biz Mustang might center on a Bullitt remake. Sounds right on target. We can see Jason Statham reprising the Steve McQueen part.

I have long stayed away from comparing Mustangs to non-Fords in the pages of 5.0&SF because I don't think we can really be fair about it. If we pick the Mustang, that's expected. If we don't, we are traitors.

Horse Sense: Aside from applying his savvy tuning skills to Jack's Gt, PHP's Paul Svinicki has also coached Jack on the necessity of radically lowering the rear tire pressure at the strip from the 22-or-so pounds he was running. We expect the GT's 1.78-second 60-foot times to drop accordingly.

Horse Sense: Apparently, an '01 Bullitt ingected with Mach 1 and Terminator genetic code can remain stealthy. Billy Bob Taylor says that at car shows "85 percent of the attendees just walk right by without noticing how special it is."

Horse Sense: We first came face-to-face with BMR Fabrication's products at the '04 PRI show, held in Indianapolis. The show was relocated to the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, and it's contracted to remain there until at least 2010.
