The modular motor was first put in a Mustang in 1996. Since then, sanctioning bodies have offered special modular-specific classes to showcase these amazing cars. The Vortech Modular Muscle class is run on an Open Comp format with a two-tenths breakout from an indexed dial-in. In essence, this class combines the precision of bracket racing with the thrill of heads-up racing to create a great atmosphere for the modular racer. All years of modular-powered vehicles will be permitted to race in this class.
One to Watch:If you're looking to see how the latest Ford vehicles perform, watch this class. You will see the '03 Cobras, Mach 1s, Mercury Marauders, as well as new Mustang GTs duking it out on the quarter-mile in Vortech Modular Muscle.

Originally on the schedule for the NMRA's '02 season, U.S. 131 Raceway was under construction when the event came around, and it was dropped off the schedule. But the newly refurbished facility has earned major props from racers and spectators alike, so the NMRA will be there in 2004. It has been three years since the NMRA brought its rolling thunder to Michigan, and the Michigan-area racers are saying "thank you" for the return! Detroit-area street racers are legendary, and they are intimately familiar with U.S. 131, so watch for the Michiganers to take it to the rest of the Ford world.

Autumn is by far the best time to be in Michigan. The weather is starting to turn cool, and the leaves are beginning their color shift from green to awesome shades of brown, yellow, and orange. It could still be warm, but you can bet the NMRA staff will be bringing plenty of long-sleeve shirts and jackets, just in case.
