During the swap, Lance made the necessary changes for sub-9-second legality. PowerHouse installed a six-point rollbar, a master cut-off switch, and the like. The team also narrowed the 8.8 rear to make room for larger rear meats, and upgraded the rear suspension accordingly. To ensure 9s were attainable, a Precision Turbo 76mm single turbocharger was thrown into the mix. However, to maintain a sleeper image, the Pony package exterior remains unchanged save for a Steeda Autosports cowl hood. "I decided to keep the V-6 bumpers to retain the appearance, as well as the heritage of the V-6 roots," Lance says.
With the car boasting the turbocharged Shelby GT500 combination, Lance has run a best-of 9.93 at 140 mph-all the result of adding a set of springs. Go figure.

The interior of Lance's Pony...

The interior of Lance's Pony is dominated by a PowerHouse Automotive six-point rollbar, but other highlights include Katzkin Raven Suedeskin front seats, Auto Meter gauges, and a Dynojet wideband air/fuel gauge. The stock shifter operates a Lentech 4R70W transmission with a Precision Industries 3,200-rpm converter.

No disrespect to V-6 owners,...

No disrespect to V-6 owners, but when someone asks me how to make a V-6 Mustang faster, I reply: "Put a V-8 in it." I'm sorry, but it's just easier that way. Lance and PowerHouse Automotive's Mike Bowen somewhat agree with that sentiment. Lance took the V-6 route for a while, but when the engine expired, he upgraded to a built Shelby GT500 5.4 with a Precision Turbo 76mm single turbocharger. PowerHouse twisted the wrenches on Lance's car since it was new. Thus far, Powerhouse has taken it to 665 hp at the wheels on a Mustang Dyno. That number gets Lance's Pony down the track in 9.93 seconds at 140 mph.
