Swafford Competition Machine and Dyno (Austell, Georgia) completed the machine and assembly work for Gene. Tommy Harris from Fabrication Concepts (Douglas-ville, Georgia) handbuilt a short runner, sheetmetal intake for the car. "Tommy constructed a well-detailed intake with the runner length and plenum volume I was shooting for," Gene says. "To make the kind of power needed, a Greddy T-88 was chosen to provide the boost to the 5.4." The 88mm turbo is capable of producing upward of 30 pounds of boost, but Gene dials it down to around 12-13 pounds for tooling around town. The largest air-to-air intercooler he could find to fit resides at the front of the car, cooling the air before it enters the Accufab single-blade throttle body. Gene handled all the tubing work for the turbo and the intercooler. Using a FAST SEFI fuel-management system, the car has made 731 hp on a Dynojet 248C dyno at just 13 pounds of boost.
The interior barely hints of the power lurking underhood. It's similar to-but nicer than-the stocker we have in the 5.0&SF parking lot. Save for a Zartek eight-point cage, the interior is comprised of stock components-there's even a stock shifter residing atop a TTC-Tremec 3550 transmission. While Gene's wife, Sheri, drives the car to local cruises and shows, Gene stays close by at the wheel of his Four-Valve, twin-turbo Focus.
