Dan Strezo at Precision Turbo put together this masterpiece of Ford small-block technology. The 2,000-plus horsepower brute is made up of a Ford Racing Performance Parts block (4.125-inch bore by 3.7-inch stroke for 400 ci), a billet-steel crank, 9.0:1 pistons, and aluminum rods. The FFPP SC-1 cylinder heads were ported by Chapman Racing heads, and they work with a custom solid-roller camshaft and a Jesel valvetrain. The intake is from FRPP as well with a trip through the porting shop at Wilson Manifolds. The Harry Hruska/Precision Turbo100mm hairdryer pumps an "unknown" amount of boost through the Precision intercooler when the magic happens.
The final chassis work was done by R&R Chassis (St. Louis, Missouri) with the full Funny Car, tube-frame goods. The four-link suspension holds a Jerry Bickel rear with Mark Williams spool and axles. Koni electric shocks, Bickel springs, custom wheelie bars, and Mark Williams brakes are other features that help plant the Hoosier racing slicks. The front suspension consists of tubular chassis work with Strange struts, Hypercoil springs, and Strange brakes. Rims in the front are Force, while Monocoque rims carry the back. The car weighs in at 2,900 pounds with driver. The gorgeous red paint sets off the '01 body-in-white Mustang. It also features a Hairy Glass hood and trunk lid with an R&R Chassis rear wing.
Inside the confines of this 25.1C-certified chassis, you'll find lots of tube work, Kirkey Racing seats, Auto Meter gauges, and a Hurst Line-Loc. The transmission is a Liberty "clutchless" five-speed designed to take the shock of the initial launch off the tires and put it to the ground. Randy tunes his own Ram 10-inch, dual-disk clutch and pressure-plate arrangement.
Debuted at the Columbus, Ohio, NMRA event, Randy's Pro 5.0 car has already captured the biggest race of them all-the World Ford Challenge Pro Mod 5.0 class. The car has gone as fast as 6.91 seconds in the quarter-mile at more than 206 mph. It has covered the first 60 feet of the dragstrip in 1.09 seconds!
