Building project cars for the SEMA Show can be stressful, but it's also a lot of fun. It allows car builders to express their creativity on a canvas that the entire automotive world can view. Of course, with that kind of potential audience, the task carries pressure beyond the deadlines for completing the build. You want your ride to stand out from the competition, and to do that you need a different angle.
"The Vortech Superchargers Project Yellow Jacket '14 5.0 Mustang GT is really something that stemmed from the color itself," said Neil Tjin, automotive marketing director at Vortech Superchargers. "Ever since first seeing the Ferrari 355 Spyder chase scene at the beginning of the movie The Rock, with Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery, I have wanted to paint a car Ferrari Giallo Modena Yellow."
The Vortech Superchargers Project Yellow Jacket '14 5.0 Mustang GT is really something that stemmed from the color itself.
You'd have to agree it was a good strategy to cut through all the noise on the SEMA show floor and attract attention to Vortech's products. Naturally the bright yellow wrapper surrounds a Mustang equipped with one of Vortech's vaunted supercharger units—the V-3 Si. This self- contained unit draws in air through the company's Competition inlet, and feeds 8 psi to an otherwise stock Coyote 5.0 via one of Vortech's air-to-air intercoolers. Running Vortech's own smog-legal calibration, this combination yielded 531 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque at the wheels.
"As a lifelong Ford fan, I was inspired to create this project car when I realized Ford doesn't offer yellow on the 2014 Mustang," Brian Ellis, sales, marketing and social media manager for AirPower Group, added. "We wanted to create something really eye-popping with a mechanical package to match the appearance."

When it comes to building a car to stand out in Sin City, it takes more than shiny paint and a supercharger to hang with the big boys. Fortunately, Vortech didn't just select parts for their visual impact. The company actually built a well-rounded vehicle to support the newfound power under the car's hood. Obviously, the car gets up to speed quickly, so a complete Baer Brakes setup provides the braking horsepower to keep up.
Likewise, putting that kind of power to the ground presents a challenge. It doesn't matter on the showfloor, but it does make a difference on the pavement. To that end, the Vortech crew tasked with the build—Neil, Brian Ellis, and Corey Longstreth—chose a complete, and we mean complete, Maximum Motorsports suspension system front to back. This hardware dials in the geometry, damping, and spring rates to make the most of the traction available via the Falken Azenis FK453 tires at all four corners.
"All in all, the Yellow Jacket Mustang embodies the best of the best of the '11-'14 Mustangs, wrapped into a package that will easily turn heads anywhere it goes while keeping those other ‘bumblebees' solidly in check," Neil said.
