In the land of corn—Des Moines, Iowa—lives Mario McPherson Sr. and his 1991 LX coupe. Mario has owned the car over 10 years now and mostly enjoys the local car show scene. However, with a Trick Flow intake, a cold-air intake, exhaust enhancements, 3.55 gears, and many other bolt-ons, we trust he also enjoys getting out on the open roads to let the horses eat.
A regular to take a shot at the Christmas Tree, Brent Yager and his 2011 GT/CS routinely participate in NMRA, Fun Ford, and Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge events. Brent was born and raised in the Motor City, but he now calls Dallas home and has been drag racing at the track since he was a teenager. “I have had six Mustangs now and bleed Ford blue,” Brent says. He spends nearly every weekend at the track fine-tuning his GT/CS to extract the most out of it—and simply to have fun. “Racing is my passion, and I try to keep it fun while seriously competing,” he adds. His GT/CS features a 6R80 automatic with a stock converter, but he equipped the car with a Boss 302 intake, a BBK Performance 85mm throttle body, GT500 mufflers, a UPR Products off-road X-shape crossover pipe, a C&L Performance cold-air intake, 4.10 gears, and an SCT tuner with a custom AED tune. To plant the power, Brent’s GT/CS boasts a Roush Performance upper control arm and mount, GT500 lower control arms, GT front springs, V-6 rear springs, Strange Engineering adjustable dampers, BMR lower control-arm relocation brackets, Shelby swaybars, an SPC adjustable Panhard bar, JPC Racing rear swaybar-relocation brackets, and a Stifflers driveshaft loop. The image you see here is the car’s street trim. When Brent’s GT/CS hits the track, it wears Racestar Dragstars with Mickey Thompson 275/60/15 ET Street Drag Radials out back. All this adds up to a best of 11.63 at 118 mph for Brent and his GT/CS.
Robert Castillo’s version of a silver bullet is this 1998 S281. The Saleen features a stroked MMR short-block, Trick Flow heads, Anderson Ford Motorsport F-42 blower cams, an Accufab intake, and an eight-rib conversion. Of course, he needs the conversion because Robert’s Saleen also sports a Vortech V2 supercharger, a Tial blow-off valve, and an air-to-air intercooler. All told, the combo is responsible for pounding out 520 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque at the feet at 14 pounds of boost. To help slow down the beast, the Saleen has Cobra brakes up front, while KYB adjustable struts keeps the car sure-footed.
