An exciting new partnership was just announced between Ford Motor Company and DreamWorks Studios for the all-new feature film dubbed “Need for Speed” based on one of the most popular video games of all time, a game that has sold over 140 million copies worldwide. The movie will integrate Ford products and you can expect Ford to start promoting it before its release on March 14, 2014.
The main star, a custom Mustang dreamt up with the help of designers at Ford will feature a custom wide-body, 22-inch alloy wheels, and a large air intake to help with the supercharged 5.8L V8-powered engine blasting down about 900 horsepower. To top it off, it features a specially formulated silver paint job with blue stripes that glow when hit by light.
“’Need for Speed’ is rooted in Americana, and when we were casting our hero car for the film, Ford Mustang was the obvious choice,” said Stacy Snider of DreamWorks Studios. “With its 50-year history in film, the iconic Mustang is the perfect co-star for Aaron Paul. We are privileged to have such an esteemed partner like Ford working with us on this film and look forward to seeing their Mustang up on the big screen next year.”
With the Ford Mustang gracing us with its presence for almost fifty continuous years, it only made sense for this all-American car to take main stage during the film. Another Ford vehicle will make an appearance, an F-450 truck known as “The Beast”, and another Mustang used as the camera car for getting all of those sweet action shots.
“Ford Mustang is a symbol of freedom and optimism that allows you to be the person you dream of being, making it the perfect fit for this story,” said Farley. “Ford is excited to partner with DreamWorks and Electronic Arts as they bring the epic gaming franchise of ‘Need For Speed’ to the big screen, allowing us to go further with them as they tell their great story on the global stage.”
The film stars Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Dominic Cooper (Captain America), Imogen Poots (Friday Night), and Michael Keaton (Batman). Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) is the director of the film. George Gatins and John Gatins developed the story and wrote the screenplay with John Gatins, Patrick O’Brien and Mark Sourian producing. Walt Disney Company will be distributing the film in the United States as well as select international territories, with Mister Smith Entertainment distributing the film across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Relliance, a partner of DreamWorks will distribute the film in India.
“’The Need for Speed’ movie will embody everything that fans of action racing films want to see – hot cars, high-stakes street racing and mind-blowing stunts,” said Scott Waugh, director of the “Need for Speed” film. “The adrenaline-fueled story across America will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.”
The next Need for Speed game, Need for Speed Rivals, will be available on Nov. 19th 2013 for the Xbox 360 and Microsoft entertainment systems, the Playstation 3 and PC. It will launch on Xbox One and Playstation 4 later on this year.
According to Jalopnik, the real Mustang in the photos does not deliver 900 horses, but has been vamped up by Ford to make it look like a beast from a distance.
