Gerry and Glenda Cutforth of High River, Alberta, Canada, used to drive a '66 Mustang convertible on dates back in 1968-'70. Sadly, the Cutforths sold the Springtime Yellow drop top to raise a family. Gerry purchased the red '66 seen here in 1980 as a running project, but didn't have the funds for a full restoration. The '66 went up on blocks for 30 years and in 2007 bought the '06 GT as a daily driver, adding the Boss-look graphics and a few other touches. After raising three kids and putting them through college the Cutforths pulled the '66 out of storage in 2010, a 289 V-8 automatic with power top, and restored it. "We added as many options as were available back in 1966," Gerry states. Those include foglights, power steering, Styled Steel wheels, GT exhaust, Shelby rearview mirrors, Pony interior, and Shelby retractable antenna.
Emberglow at Night in Australia
Andrew Powell of Perth, Australia, has owned this '66 hardtop for eight years. "It was actually my ex-wife's idea to buy one—she knew I always wanted one. This picture was taken at the store where I bought her," Andrew tells us. Since buying the Emberglow hardtop he has added Styled Steel wheels, an Autolite 4100 carb, headers, new brakes, a new radiator, and overhauled the Top Loader four-speed. "The weather in Perth is much like San Diego so I get to take her out a lot—and in fact, until a year ago she was my daily driver," Andrew adds. "My Mustang was imported to Australia in 1993, is numbers matching, and I love the Emberglow at night. The only other mods I plan to make are adding the GT options without trying to turn it into a fake GT."
When he's not cruising the streets of Palm Bay, Florida, Jim Tyler enjoys taking his Vibrant Red '93 GT hatch to local car shows and cruises. "My wife bought me this car eight years ago for Valentine's Day," Jim states. Exterior upgrades include a Saleen wing, chrome Cobra R's wrapped in Goodyear Eagles, chrome headlights, and BBK springs which drop the Fox 1½ inches. Interior upgrades include map pocket and console deletes and white face gauges. Mechanical upgrades include a K&N air filter, MAC headers, an MGW shifter, Ford Racing plug wires, Flowmaster exhaust, and 3:55 gears. Jim has added plenty of accents under hood to wow the judges.
Two Out of Three Ain't Bad
Most Mustang enthusiasts realize that the Mustang has graced The Greatest Spectacle in Racing as its Pace Car three times—first in 1964, then in 1979, and once again in 1994. Dave Maloney of Indianapolis, Indiana, has two such cars. His '64½ Pace Car was found on eBay about five years ago. The '94 Pace Car is one of 107 Festival Pace Cars used by VIPs during the month of May for the 1994 Indy 500 race. "It has won Gold and Platinum awards at MCA Events and placed Second in last year's Keeneland Concours. It is 100 percent original, even sporting the original tires and only has 4,900 miles on it," David tells us of his '94. Hopefully he can finish off his collection one day with a '79 Pace Car as well.
