You can't imagine how painful...
You can't imagine how painful it is to publish a photo that includes even a glimpse of Brand-X hardware in it. Thankfully, Mustangs dominate this image, just as they did in the Run for the Rings shootout that closed the 5th Annual Nitto Tire NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing.
Us vs. Them
Last year, ProMedia changed its "champion's ring" distribution format, and made receiving the highly coveted jewelry a team effort, as opposed to awarding rings to individual winners of each NMRA/NMCA runoff.
In an exciting, 12-race showdown at the conclusion of Super Bowl V's NMRA and NMCA eliminations, Racers of the NMRA prevailed in the special challenge (beating several Brand-X cars in the process), earning the all-hallowed rings, and a year's worth of bragging rights for each member of the team, and proud members of the Mustang Nation.

Pure Street
As the newest...

Pure Street
As the newest member of the carbureted Two-Valve ranks in Pure Street (Jim St Clair and Mark Anderson also pack Two-Valves underhood), Brandon Alsept proved that he may have the unique setup "figured out" a little better than other competitors. Brandon qualified his '98 'Stang in a "safe" Fourth spot, but put the entire class (and even some Real Street racers) on notice when he unleashed a blistering 10.18/132.17 package in the first round of eliminations. The Super Bowl win is Brandon's first of 2010.

"We got this whole deal set...

"We got this whole deal set up really quickly," says Brian Meyer, who came out of retirement to pilot Grandpa Ron Anderson's '89 coupe in Pure Street. "We caught a few breaks and had a good day." Despite coming up short on having a true, Cinderella day, Brian's march to the final round shows he still has what it takes to be a force in NMRA competition. When we asked the 2005 & 2006 Real Street champion whether we'll see him at other races this season, "you never know" is the only reply Brian offered.

Factory Stock
Tommy Godfrey...

Factory Stock
Tommy Godfrey avenged his loss to Matt Amrine at Milan, by running around Matt's holeshot and getting to the stripe with an 11.20 (to Matt's 11.24). The 2009 class champion's success at the 'Bowl is a testament to keeping tight run records. "I looked at my log notes from the '08 race and saw that the weather conditions were almost identical (to this year's event). My combination is different now, so I had to do some calculating to determine which way to go with the tuneup, but thankfully it worked out," Tommy says.

As winner of the Milan race...

As winner of the Milan race in Factory Stock, and low-qualifier at the Super Bowl, Matt Armine definitely had the perceived edge going into eliminations at Joliet. However, Matt's momentum slipped away quickly after taking a small lead in the final round, as class-champ, Tommy Godfrey, was able to drive around Matt's '98 GT for the win.

Modular Muscle
Defending...

Modular Muscle
Defending Modular Muscle champion, Reggie Burnett Jr., found his way to the winner's circle once again, by riding a wave of great fortune in eliminations, after a disastrous day of qualifying. "We broke the ring gear, and the transmission in separate qualifying hits," says Reggie. "I only made one qualifying run and that put me 20th on the ladder. I was ready to race, but seeing all those red lights today (in the quarterfinals, semifinals and in the final round of eliminations against top-qualifier Jason Epstein) definitely takes some of the sting out of what we went through."

Open Comp
With your tech...

Open Comp
With your tech editor being a Maverick fan, KJ really enjoyed watching John H Pickering use his big-block-powered '70 to methodically dissect a 16-car field in the NMRA's Open Comp eliminator. Shortly after that win, John also grabbed "Us vs. Them" glory by taking out the NMCA's OC winner.

Trucks
Behind the wheel...

Trucks
Behind the wheel of a clean, first-generation Lightning, Ray Johnson had little to sweat during early rounds of eliminations in the Truck and Lightning class. Ray dispatched Gerry VanVeen's Ranger to earn a spot in the final, and logged his first NMRA victory by breaking out the least, in a double-breakout final with '09 champ, Bob Cochran.

Super 'Stang
Team Brenspeed...

Super 'Stang
Team Brenspeed dominated the Super 'Stang class at Joliet, as the final round saw Justin Loftis and Miles Wagoner battling it out for Super Bowl supremacy. Miles proved to be the better of the two in his Sunburst Gold '10 GT, and continued his winning ways against the NMCA's True Street winner, who also was in a Mustang.
