Like EFI Renegade's Bart Tobener, Tommy Godfrey was also testing some new drag radials on his JPC Racing-sponsored LX coupe, but in Tommy's case it was Nitto's new drag radial offerings. Tommy was able to fix his coupe's habit of shutting off between shifts so he was ready to put the Nittos to the test. Tommy was happy with the tires' performance as he once again qualified in the top spot with an 11.18 at almost 120 mph. Tommy swapped back to his usual BFGoodrich drag radials for the finals against Jay Dold, and he was able to pick up right where he left off with the Nittos with another 11.teen pass at 120 mph to take the win. Jay Dold really had his Mach 1 flying at zMax, qualifying number 2 with an 11.25/118 mph pass. Jay's Modular Depot-tuned Mach 1 Four-Valve made it through eliminations with minimal drama, but he was unable to replicate his qualifying pass against Tommy in the final. It may not have been enough anyway. Jay has improved and gotten quicker each race. Modular Muscle

Since the other MV Performance racers didn't perform so well, Modular Muscle racer Gary "Hollywood" Parker had to pick up their slack. He was on his game at zMax, cutting consistent lights, and running close to his index, while his opponents weren't able to do the same. It also helped his points cause that many of the top Modular Muscle racers went out early in eliminations. Photo by Paul Rosner. Super 'Stang
Chris Parisi... Super 'Stang
Chris Parisi had his Super 'Stang ride dialed-in at zMax. Since he runs a 4.0 V6 with an automatic, Chris seems to have the optimal combination for the class. However, Chris still has to do work at the tree, and that he did at zMax. His worst light was a .584 against Derek Kernodle in the semis, but he survived the round to get a spot in the final. Against David Bachota's 10-second '06 GT, Chris was able to take the event win. Open Comp

Now this is a car we don't see too often. It's Paul Lehman's '31 Ford Model A coupe with a 468ci big-block in it. We're glad Paul went all Ford with the coupe, and even more so with the fact that he races it. The Clawson, Michigan resident seems to know exactly when to hit the brakes at the top end to make sure he doesn't break out, and his wicked-fast reaction times don't hurt his cause, either. Truck and Lightning
In the... Truck and Lightning
In the Truck and Lightning category, we shouldn't have been surprised that 17 trucks showed up to race at zMax. The class' most popular entrant Johnny Lightning grabbed the victory when the tire smoke cleared. Johnny had his '02 Lightning dialed-in on Sunday, cutting excellent reaction times, and staying out from of his fellow competitors to get the win.
