Will Carroll: '05 Mustang GT 9.96/138When we received Will Carroll's submission to attend the E85 Challenge, we just had to get a closer look at this car. Could it really do what he said it did? If this car was in the lane next to you, you'd simply see a stock '05 Mustang right down to the stock wheels. Of course, it's anything but stock underhood, as it lays down 640 hp and 715 lb-ft of torque thanks to 21 pounds of boost from a PowerHouse turbo kit.
In Madison, Will made efficient use of the four runs he made at our weather-shortened track day. Though he was sneaking up on things, even his first pass was an impressive 10.28 despite spinning the tires and running a bit rich. As Will slowly adjusted his two-step and leaned out his tune, he gradually trimmed his e.t. down to 10.10 and then 9.99. Impressive as that was, Will still had more in the car. As the weather rolled in, he leaned the car out a bit more and added more boost to achieve his best time of the day.
"I think if I had more time to tweak the tune and let the car cool off, I could've gotten into the 9.70s," Will says. "The car had been 9.88 at 141 a few weeks ago, so the power is there."

Keith Lopez: '82 Mustang 10.00/NAThere was no doubt that Keith Lopez delivered the most exciting pass of the E85 Challenge, but not because his 'Stang was the fastest or had the tallest wheelie. Nope. Keith had a near scare as his car lost traction near midtrack, and his four-eyed Fox turned all the way around and tripped the lights with its rear tire, registering a 10.00 with no mph, as the car also clipped the sensor on the way. Fortunately Keith and the car walked away largely intact, as we'd hate to see a nice four-eyed Fox sacrificed at our event. We think you can understand why Keith decided to stand pat with his one pass and live to race another day.
