You love all things Mustang-cruising, showing, and racing. Your significant other and kids want a week at the beach. What do you do? Go to Mustang Week! Every year for the past seven years, thousands of Mustang lovers and their families have converged in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, during the fourth week of July for the ultimate Mustang vacation. Mustang Week is the brainchild of Rodney Melton, who saw what bikers were doing in Daytona each February and applied the idea of combining a beach vacation with various Mustang activities. Most of the Mustang activities are loosely scheduled for the afternoon or evenings, leaving plenty of time for leisurely breakfasts with the family and cool morning walks on the beaches.

For 2007, Mustang week kicked off with more than 200 Mustangs joining for a meet 'n' greet at Planet Hollywood on Tuesday evening. Wednesday night featured hot laps and a burnout contest held at Myrtle Beach Speedway. Things really heated up with a cruise-in at the Hooters at the Colonial Mall for hot wings and hot Mustangs. Then everyone cruised to Darlington Dragway for an evening of dragstrip action. First timers, grudge racers, and seasoned Renegade racers took advantage of the well-prepped track to wow the crowds with burnouts and wheels-up launches. There were 130 cars and more than 800 people that made the 90-minute trip to Darlington for the drag night festivities including on-site dyno pulls by Pro-Dyno of Fort Mill, South Carolina.

The Hooters at Colonial Mall was overrun with Mustangs on Thursday.

Friday's big event was the Mustang Week car show, a judged and people's choice show put on with the help of local Mustang Club Mustangs of Burlington. The car show was sold out and more than 500 beautiful Mustangs took their place in the sun on the blacktop of the Colonial Mall's south parking lot. Numerous vendors and manufacturers were on hand, including Pypes Exhaust, Ford Racing, Saleen, Performance Automatic Transmissions, and Silver Horse Performance. A local radio station even provided the appropriate soundtrack, and thousands of beachgoers spent the day watching Mustangs roll in instead of the waves.

Mustang Week 2007 came to a crescendo with a huge free cruise-in at the mall on Saturday night with more than 700 Mustangs full of families and friends enjoying the perfect Mustang summer vacation.
