Barrett-Jackson West Palm Beach was the scene of some extra excitment Saturday, March 29th, when two of the Mustangs used in the new Knight Rider TV movie recently aired on NBC went up for auction to benefit the Salute to Education scholarship charity. The charity which awards financial assistance to high school seniors who demonstrate community service, academic achievement, leadership and strong educational and career goals. Ford Motor Company, participating Ford and Lincoln Mercury dealers, and Ford Motor Credit fund the program which has helped thousands of students realize their dream for a college or university education.
Driving attack mode KITT onto the stage was the star of the new Knight Rider, Justin Bruening, while Ford Executive VP and President Mark Fields drove the Mustang GT KITT version. The bidding got started hot and heavy, with the price for both cars together quickly hitting the 200k mark. Pushing the price even higher was the added bonus of the rights to the last 2009 Shelby GT500KR off the assembly line to the lucky bidder, offered by Mark Fields from the auctioneer's podium. When the gavel dropped ont he auction, the price was at a whopping 300,000 dollars, guaranteeing that lots of lucky high schoolers across America will realize the dream of attending college when they graduate.
