WelcomeAccelerating into the futureThe NMRA Ford Nationals event series is embarking on its 7th Anniversary Tour, and the prospects for the Ford hot-rod scene look brighter than ever-even brighter than we imagined a year ago. Likewise, the future for the NMRA is incredibly promising.
The NMRA Ford National Series underwent tremendous growth this past year, from both a spectator and participant standpoint. Not only did we have some of the biggest events in NMRA history, but contestant counts also remained brisk at every venue. Nearly 600 race cars competed at the huge Motive Gear Super Bowl of Street-Legal Drag Racing presented by Nitto Tire at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois. But the highlight of the season had to be the fierce competition in DiabloSport Pro 5.0 and the championship coming down to the last race, the Nitto Tire World Finals at the storied Beech Bend Raceway. Michael Hauf upset three-time champ Don Walsh Jr., taking home the coveted crown. In the NMRA Laurel Mountain Mustang Auto Show 'n' Shine, every event featured solid participant increases, and we're working to continue the growth of this part of the events.
The reason for the success of the NMRA Ford Nationals Series is clear: We have a committed staff, the best racers, and the greatest fans in street-legal drag racing. But above all, the NMRA has the support of world-class sponsors, the lynchpins in the automotive aftermarket. Each and every marketing partner makes an enormous impact in the quality of the program, and I want to thank them for being involved. Add to that the wonderful relationship we have developed with the Primedia network of magazines, with worldwide coverage of every NMRA Ford National Series event in 2006 and plans to expand coverage for 2007, and you have a recipe for success-not just for the sanctioning body, but for the racers and sponsors as well!
With increased magazine coverage, the continuation of our national television programming for every event, and the largest contingency program in street-legal drag racing, we're looking for the '07 season to kick the NMRA Ford National Event Series into primetime.
