The reveal of the 2015 Ford Mustang is looming ever closer and Ford has announced a new “Mustang Countdown,” an online weekly video series, to kick off the celebration. These videos will revolve around the American icon and the culture that surrounds it all over the world. Come April 17, 2014 and our favorite pony car turns 50 years old.
“Where It All Started: The Mustang 1 Concept” is the first video to start the series and takes a look back in 1962 during the first debut of a car to sport the running pony badge, the Mustang 1 concept. After that, the video series will pull out a few gems from the archives as well as cover Mustang toys, custom Mustangs, racing, ultra-rare footage, exclusive news interviews, stories, and expert insights.
Another episode includes “RC Movie Magic: Filming a Chase”, which takes a look behind the creation of filmmaker Zach King’s viral video “The Cliché RC Action Chase.” The RC Chase video received almost 3 million YouTube views earlier this year.
“Fans around the world share a passion for Mustang that embodies the freedom of the open road and the spirit of performance driving,” said Steve Ling, Ford car marketing manager. “The ‘Mustang Countdown’ series is another way in which Ford is honoring that heritage with numerous celebrations over the next year.”
Upcoming episodes will feature Mustangs in games, the Mustang’s competitive heritage, custom restomods and much more.
Since 1964, over 9.2 million Ford Mustangs have been sold and it has made over 3,000 appearances over the years both in the movies and on television with popular names like Bullitt, Gone in 60 Seconds (original and remake), I Am Legend, Drive, and many more. In 2014 the movie Need For Speed will feature the Mustang as the leading car role, which is based on Electronic Arts long-time running video game series.
