By now the recipe for selection as our Babe of the Month is well known. A lovely lady and a Mustang are the two key ingredients. If the Mustang is hers, the odds of appearing on this page seem to go up. This time around, Melissa "Red" Fier of Charleston, South Carolina, took her entry to a new level. Not only does Red own this Mustang, but she bought it to outrun her dad's Corvette. Now that's our kinda gal!
"...I grew up in a Corvette household in Ohio. I have always enjoyed cars, and when I could afford one on my own, I not only wanted something that would get respect, but also something to outrun my dad's C5 Vette," Melissa explained. "I talked to a couple of my gearhead friends for their input on a good platform. My only requirements were that it had to be red and have the potential to beat my dad," Melissa said. "After much discussion, I chose a stock '03 Cobra. I will admit that for the first six months her power was intimidating, but it didn't take long for me to realize I wanted and needed more... so I sold my high school car—a Honda civic—so I could mod the Cobra."
Hold the phone. Not only did Melissa buy a Terminator to defeat her dad's midlife-crisis mobile, but she sold her foreign econo-box to finance modifications of said Cobra?
If we weren't sold on her BOTM qualifications before, we certainly were convinced after reading that. However, the story gets better. She didn't just add a couple bolt-ons, she really stepped things up.
"I decided on a larger supercharger and supporting mods. What I ended up with was a Kenne Bell 2.2, an upgraded fuel system, a full exhaust, and drag radials. On my first dyno tune, she put down 542 rwhp; by the end of the day, she was putting down 576 rwhp on 93 pump gas," she notes. "The difference was unbelievable. I only had one thing to do—drive to Ohio and run my dad. He underestimated what ‘Red' could do, but he soon learned what forced-induction is all about when I pulled four cars on him.
"These pictures are recent, after I lowered it. Please make us BOTM!" Thanks for asking so nicely, Melissa, but after putting four cars on your dad's Vette, we had to put you and your car on this page.
We know you've stopped reading by now, but if you think you know a gal that is BOTM material, well, you won't know if you don't get out from under the hood and take a picture of her with your Mustang—or better yet, hers. Send those pictures and a description of your babe and the car to: BOTM, 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords, 9036 Brittany Way, Tampa, FL 33619 or email@example.com.
